Top 10 albums of 2005
1. SENTENCED - THE FUNERAL ALBUM
The last album from our suicide-rockers from Oulu. Probably no other band managed to end their career the way Sentenced did. Many of us followed Sentenced during their Funeral tour as well as through the last moments of the band, and 'The Funeral Album' was clearly voted as the album of the year by our staff. May Sentenced Rest In Peace now!

2. MASTERPLAN - AERONAUTICS
The year 2005 already started quite promising with Masterplan's second full-length album 'Aeronautics' in January. The guys around Jorn Lande definitely managed to create a strong second output which left lots of other albums of 2005 behind in our voting. There aren't many albums packed with so many hit-songs as this one.

3. KORPIKLAANI - VOICE OF WILDERNESS
Korpiklaani as well delivered their second output in the beginning of 2005. Already their debut was a strong album, but 'Voice Of Wilderness' shows us how folk metal should sound like. This album can be called something like the incarcation of Finnish party/drinking-culture :) Don't forget to check out the follow-up album next year!

4. OPETH - GHOST REVERIES
'Ghost Reveries' was a highly anticipated album among Opeth fans and it truly didn't disappoint us. Opeth is known for high-quality albums and this piece of art is another album to follow their long row of masterpieces. Make sure to check this album out if you don't want to miss one of 2005's most important metal albums.

5. MACHINE MEN - ELEGIES
The whole year of 2005 can be called quite a successful one for Machine Men. They didn't only sign with a major label like Century Media, put out a new album that beats their debut by far, no - they also made a name for themselves around Europe by supporting Sonata Arctica on tour. This band is one of Finland's brightest hopes for the future.

6. KIUAS - THE SPIRIT OF UKKO
The first actual newcomer album we have in our top 10 list so far. Kiuas are certainly one of the best, if not 'the' best newcomer band of 2005. Their debut 'The Spirit Of Ukko' is a very powerful release and was praised everywhere. This is another very talented and promising band we are sure to hear more of in the future as well.

7. MOONSORROW - VERISÄKEET
An album that can be described in one word: Epic. Which other band manages it to put 70 minutes of music into 5 songs? Moonsorrow are definitely masters in creating an epic atmosphere in their music as they show it here. For sure it isn't the easiest release of this year to get into, but actually none of Moonsorrow's albums was. Another word: impressive!

8. EQUILIBRIUM - TURIS FRATYR

Maybe not too many people might know this band yet, but according to our staff-votes this was the album with the best votes in average (though not in total). Equilibrium are a viking/heathen metal band from Germany that delivered a more than impressive and high-quality debut with 'Turis Fratyr'. Their song called "Met" is probably the drinking-song of the year.

9. CHILDREN OF BODOM - ARE YOU DEAD YET?
Children of Bodom also striked back with a new album in 2005. The fifth full-length album 'Are You Dead Yet?' has a slightly industrial touch but still sounds as Children Of Bodom should sound like. Without doubt a strong release that had to be in our top 10 list of 2005. If you aren't dead (or deaf) yet, get your hands on this one!

10. DARK TRANQUILLITY - CHARACTER

The voting was very close towards the last few places, but last but not least we have 'Character' - probably the album with one of the most interesting artworks of 2005. But as interesting is what's inside! Dark Tranquillity's 7th full-length album is definitely worth listening to. This it melodic death metal at its finest!
